Impacts
The Civil
War caused many things to change, some were short-term, and others were long-term.
Some of the short term impacts were that the North had abolished slavery. Slavery
was a way of life for the Southerners, and the South was very angry when they took
that way of life from them. Another short term impact was that a lot of people died
in the war. Families lived a lot closer lives back then, and when lots of people
died, the families were impacted strongly. People’s lives and the way they lived
was impacted because the government had called on them to support the troops, and
when they did that, they were out of house and home. " By the time it ended
in Confederate surrender in 1865, the Civil War proved to be the costliest war ever
fought on American soil, with some 620,000 of 2.4 million soldiers killed, millions
more injured and the population and territory of the South devastated" (Staff).
They had little money left, and it was hard to transport food just after the war.
There were lots of long term impacts, too. The government changed the most. Before, it was in turmoil because of slavery, and slave’s rights. The Government could not decide because the South protested so strongly, and the government could not take a vote. Another long impact was that the country became united, and the South could not try to split off again. It united the country and helped prepare us for wars to come, which we would have surely lost if there were still civil war or were two separate countries.
Overall, the war impacted the families of the soldiers strongest, because they were out of money after supporting the troops for so long.
